Global warming which threatens all mankind and the Earth, appears as a chain of processes that stimulate one another by getting into cause and effect contact with global crisis. At the same time, both crises are closely connected with global political crisis global crisis of democracy as well as crises of field of fundamental human rights and freedoms, world order and political systems. We think that the struggle against each of them separately will not be enough without reviewing these three crises together and attempting their parallel solution simultaneously.
Considering of role of changes taken place in human factor and mind in both global warming and global economic development is very important in solution of these problems and prevention of re-occurrence of this type of crises. We consider it important to study the specific connection between global warming and human factor which is the most important factor of global democratic crisis and both crises in a scientific way.
It is possible to explain global warming either with increasing of radiation of the Earth by the Sun or with changes occurring in turning of this radiation into different energies. According to the well-known scientist Shapley, the Sun can not change to a considerable extent within 20 milliard years. If we consider that the global warming takes place in the last century, then it wouldnt be correct to explain it with changes taking place in the Sun. In that case, we need to search for the reasons of global warming in radiation of the Earth, factors which influence the transformation of the Sun beam on the Earth and effect of human activity on the same factors.
According to us, the warming balance of the Earth is of synergetic nature connecting with processes in three different spheres both in theosphere, biosphere and noosphere. The participation of a man in warming balance is connected with physical changes he made in theosphere on one hand and his organization of biosphere as a living creature on the other hand as well as noosphere creation of taxis creation of artificial cultural surroundings differing from natural space. Though these three spheres obey quite different natural laws, they are closely connected with one another at the same time.
But the fact on emission of heating gases of global warming into the atmosphere in huge volume, has already been justified scientifically and today the attention of the world community has mostly been drawn to this problem. But it should not be forgotten that there are such other factors today that they begin to influence heating balance of the Earth after these factors reach a certain extent. The global warming must be studied as process with prolifactor in this respect.
We consider it necessary to review the factors which dont yet play serious roles in global warming but are expected to turn into serious problems in near future and role of human being in different spheres of appearing of these problems.
Changes occurring in theosphere
Changes occurring on the Earths crust as a result of human activity; the famous Russian scientist V.I. Vernadski writes in his book named Biosphere and noosphere that There are discovered appearances out of the boundaries of it in our planet, especially in the composition of the Earths crust.there may be discovered three appearances here: a) special location of elements of periodic system; b) their complexity; v) their unequal distribution. It should be noted that unlike other living beings, a conscious man influences the appearances discovered in the structure of the Earths crust with his volitional activity and changes them. Such as, Vernadski writes that polynuclear elements rarely prevail on the Earths crust. A man interfered with each of three appearances and made serious changes to them.

Changes occurring on the Earths crust of elements of periodic system; it is clear that first of all, people use the elements like Ca, Ba, Fe, Al, Mg, C, O and others – just out of polynuclear elements in the formation of taxis more, then because of that, the correlation of polynuclear elements which rarely prevail in natural case in the Earths crust with mononuclear elements, caused mononuclear elements to prevail absolutely in the Earths crust as a result. Though we dont have concrete scientific facts on the number of atoms of elements and their role in the regulation of heating of the Earth, we may say that if the previous heating balance of the Earth has been determined with rare prevalence of just polynuclear elements, then changes occurring in the comparison with the elements of different nuclear in the structure of the Earths crust influences global warming.
Violation of unequal distribution of elements in the Earths crust; the unequal distribution of elements in the Earths crust coincided with heating balance of the Earth which had existed till the crisis. This appearance also plays a serious role in the regulation of heating balance of the Earth along with most geophysical events. The natural unequal distribution of the elements of the Earths crust is violated as a result of human activity. Today, the production of raw material existed in different areas of the Earths crust in million and even milliard tons as well as their removal from the same areas, can not make problems in the regulation of heating balance of the Earth by just the same areas. On the other hand, just not all the surface of the Earth gets Sun ray in the same level and just parallel with it, not all the surface of the Earth takes part in transformation of the Sun ray into other kind of energies in the same volume, in that case we may note that the changes taking place in the chemistry of the Earth crust as a result of human activity in theosphere, violation of natural unequal distribution of elements, have serious effects on heating balance of the Earth.

3. Bringing of appearances of the Earths crust from static state to dynamic state; the influence of a man to theosphere is also connected with his bringing the static appearances of the Earths crust to dynamic position action. Such as, the appearances of chemical structure of the Earths crust are static. But a man has created new dynamic appearance by giving these appearances mobility. Today, the materials used for production of cars, trains, ships and planes existing in this world as well as milliards tons of moving elements act as transformers different from their own static cases.
Changes occurring in biosphere
The Earths crust is irreplaceable basis for life live creatures. Vernadski writes: Life is closely connected with the structure of the Earths crust, it enters its mechanisms and plays unusual role in these mechanisms that it cant exist without it. Therefore, changes occurring in the emergences of the Earths crust, influence the life emergences and cause serious problems in them. Thus, changes taking place in theosphere cause serious changes in biosphere in their succession.
There are observed two types of changes on the Earth surface which is one of the key elements of biosphere.
1.Artificial changes taking place on the Earth surface as a result of human activity; Human being exists as a part of alive life but his impact on biosphere leads to serious results by being more complicated unlike other living beings. The participation of human being in biosphere has two natures in itself.
a)This participation is connected with changes made in the life of other living beings fauna and flora. Such as, human being has removed different types of plants and animals from biosenosis with his activity. Thus, there have happened serious changes in sequence and circulation of bio-chain. And there must be specified which role it plays in global warming.
b) The participation of a man in changes occurring in biosenosis is connected with changes in his biomass human increase. In this regard, a mans role in global warming can firstly be measured with changes made in organization of biosphere. According to V.I.Vernadski: biosphere can be considered as the region of the Earths crust caught by transformers which transforms cosmic radiation into ground energy electric, chemical, mechanical and heating. The Sun ray carrier of cosmic energy – not only awakens mechanisms which transform it into chemical energy but also creates these transformers themselves as live nature. Hence, pressing of bio-transformers which act as energy transformers, that is, increasing of transformers which transform Sun rays into heating energy, and in place of that, decreasing of bio-transformers which transform the same rays into chemical, electric and other type of energies, play an important role in global warming.
2. Natural changes occurring in the living world without human intervention; there is correlation between the life activity of different living species which make up biosenosis and global warming. Vernadski notes it right that if we forget the rare relation of biosphere with the structure of cosmic mechanism, then the appearances occurred may not be understood. Life constitutes an important part of atoms of matter which makes up the Earth surface nothing occurs in chemical appearances of biosphere without depending on life. We may ascribe the following to these connections.

Thus, plants remove one part of the beam falling on the Earth from the heating balance by changing their forms. The transformation gets weakened as such plants get lessened. 3. Influence of quantity changes of living beings to heating balance of the Earth; Every type of living being directly plays self-characteristic role not only in biosenosis but also in heating balance of the world and separate types of living beings have separate heating balances accordingly. The living mass act as an accumulator which collects energy in a certain extent and every type has special capacity of heating. Thus, there should be noted relation between changes occurring in the number of living beings and global warming balance. The research works show that the number of big animals on the Earth in the last hundred years bison, elephants, hippopotamuses, rhinoceroses, wild buffalos and others have decreased from millions to ten thousands and even to several hundreds. The parallelism between the extinction of animals with big bodies and global warming shows that these factors are not less important. We think that coming of dinosaurs from biosenosis thousands years ago, has had its negative effect on heating balance of the Earth.

Then, we must see the connection between moral violation of humanity and global warming.
The special role of a person in global warming is closely connected with his conscious activity, social organization type and culture of the society.

The connection of psychical energy with global warming; Human being consists of both body as bio-mass and soul different from it and human life is inseparable and single despite of all differences. Costa Ben Luk proves such an opinion that the condition of human consciousness influences his body. If we accept this truth which psychology and other biological sciences also confirm the effect of consciousness on the body, then we must admit the effect of consciousness of humanity on matter nature which exists as the second body of human being. Thus, it becomes clear that the changes occurring in one field of human consciousness create changes on other fields, too. If we consider that different activity of human soul requires different energy, then we must admit that the limitation of soul activity in one field results in releasing of certain energy. The internal psychological energy and connection of its effect on global warming with human mind and its attributes, especially public relations are less studied and focused field. We think that the factors which cause global warming should include human mind – his psychical energy. The role of consciousness factor in global warming appears in the following forms:
a) The effect of conscientious attitude of human being towards natural surroundings on global warming; A persons attitude towards the Earths crust, life and other living beings is first of all connected with sense. V.I.Vernadski writes: Our ideas on living organism influences philosophy, religious achievements and admissions extremely. Such ideas do not pass without influence to political consciousness and philosophy of governance. We may say that different philosophical acknowledgement plays different roles in global warming under the influence of such ideas here. Such as, the first work of democratic consciousness requires acknowledgement of one individual before others and other living beings as democratic consciousness leads to admission of human being in unity of life and space. The animal rights have already been valid in serious meaning in democratic countries today though human rights are not protected in some anti-democratic countries. Even some European countries have started discussions on material rights. With the adoption of material right, everything which constitutes the Earths crust – mountains, valleys, lakes, rivers and etc., gain rights as a whole and therewith human being saves the Earths crust which plays exceptional role in the transformation of the Sun rays from his irresponsible interference. The number correlation of democratic and anti-democratic countries in the world is still for anti-democratic countries and therefore, the peoples misguided attacks to the Earths crust are still continuing and global warming is accelerating accordingly.
b) The effect of form of consumption of psychical energy on global warming; Human being transforms one part of total cosmic energy into psychical energy unlike other living beings. It should be noted that psychical energy has more heating effect than other types of energy for its nature. In other word, transformations of psychical energy seriously influence heating capacity of the Earth. According to the conservation of energy, psychical energy does not form out of nothing and does not disappear at all, it is simply changed from one form into another. Herewith, the inclusion of this new energy into the chain of energy transformations together with other energies, allows us to speak about its exceptional role in global warming.
v) The effect of scientific activity on global warming; according to V.I.Vernadski New geological strength, scientific idea increases the evolution of biosphere of living matter and global warming increases parallel with this increase. Thus, we may say that the role of human being in global warming is connected with scientific thinking as well. While evaluating noosphere, V.I. Vernadski writes: Biosphere passes to a new condition noosphere under the influence of scientific idea and human labor..the transition of biosphere to noosphere accelerates the tempo of geological processes. And now what happens in biosphere, is connected with scientific idea and social activity of humanity scientific outlook is the creation and expression of human soul, the same work is done by religious outlook, art, public and personal social life philosophy, ideascientific outlook develops together with other fields of moral life of a person. Regarding the changes taking place between the development of scientific thought and biosphere, V.I.Vernadski writes: The course of scientific creativity is the force of changing of biosphere by human creativity the appearance of changing of biosphere is inescapable appearance corresponding to the increase of scientific thoughtthese changes take place in biosphere not depending on human will biosphere transforms to noosphere there can not be geological effect without scientific thought. Thus, we see that scientific development creates changes in biosphere irrespective of our will. We noted above that changes occurring in biosphere are accompanied with serious changes in teosphere. And there is drawn such a conclusion that scientific development causes geological changes and one of such geological changes is just global warming. The scientific thought changes not only biosphere but first of all noosphere. Changes occurring in noosphere include changes occurring in taxis – changes occurring in the structure and moral sphere of a society. V.I. Vernadski writes: There sometimes occurs other transformation in a state structure strengthening of its democratic basis connected with increasing of importance of science in the life of a state. Such as, science is democratic in more profoundness a scientific thought is a part of the structure of biosphere. Thus, for the fact that science is part of biosphere on one part and of political structure on the other hand, democratization factor attaches serious importance in global warming as democratization develops science and it develops biosphere in its turn.
g) The role of values in global warming; according to Senior Thomas B. Koluel, Human values are based on ecological relations defined objectively with nature. Thus, we must also admit the fact that the values of human being have ecological side as well. Thus, ecological relations work for global warming in those countries where human values are not appreciated in those societies. And also the violation of different freedoms conscience freedom, interference with public and social life, has a negative effect on global warming.
d) The effect of public relations on global warming; a famous American writer E. Bern writes in his book Psychoanalysis and psychotherapy for uninformed people on psychical energy: A big part of psychical energy is consumed for avoiding of any activity without doing anything psychical energy is consumed for allocation of certain ideas and emotions for keeping order in psyche. Thus, as it seems, when a person is free, most of his psychical energy is consumed for choice allocation of ideas and emotions. On the contrary, when a person is not free, his psychical energy is accumulated and is transformed into other energies chemical and heating energy as a result of other activities of a body that it would be wrong not to consider this factor in global warming. If we consider it, we can claim that there is direct connection between the type of consciousness and its role in global warming. The type of consciousness is connected with the freedom problem of human being. A free man is a person who can control himself. As the self-control demands huge psychological strength and energy, there is used more energy for the regulation of moral sphere as people become free. Unlike it, unfree person consumes less energy in moral sphere but free person enters noosphere and from there either biosphere or directly theosphere. On the other hand, people become engaged in construction massively in a free condition. But as people are not involved in construction in unfree condition, larger human mass act as destructive force. Construction absorbs cosmic energy but destruction releases such energy on the contrary. The released energy is transformed into heating energy with different transformation mechanisms and accelerates global warming.
2. The effect of culture on global warming; the utilization of psychical energy is realized in two ways by external creativity, internal-moral reconstruction. Along with it, the returning rays increase more than the absorbed rays in volume, that is, the Earths surface absorbs less part of the Sun ray and returns more part. And the ray returned to atmosphere is transformed into repeated heating energy. As a result, as though, atmosphere is exposed to double radiation. Today, we could find close connection between total area of the Earths crust remained under aerodromes, railways and asphalt roads as well as cities and other residential areas existing in the world and global warming. We need to note the role of new synthetical covers especially. Vernadski the sate of non-organization differs from mechanisms which have condition restored ceaselessly. But global warming appears with the violation of ceaseless restoration which is connected with non-organization in itself.
5. The mutual influence between human character and global warming; the other field where climate and social condition have mutual influence, is human characters. Character can be accepted as a chance of transforming certain idea into force. Character is closely connected with social structure in itself and is not a stable process, it changes depending on climate and social condition, as well as human character changes climate and social condition through contraindication. Thus, as it seems, a good person that is, a perfect person appears in the conditions of normal society on one hand and normal nature on the other hand. The appearance of a bad person on the dependence of counter-tie, depends on unfavorable public condition and nature and on the contrary, a bad person forms bad surroundings and society, the societies which cause deterioration of peoples material continuously, these societies also lead to natural spooling of a bad person that such destroyed nature is followed by global warming.
The famous American philosopher E. Toffle writes in his book named The shock of future: Social changes are connected with chemical changes in the composition of atmosphere, changing of climate, fertility of soil and other factors. The most different representatives of science have voiced enough valuable thoughts on the connection of human activity with climate and other geographical factors in different periods of time. Thus, it becomes clear that events taking place in climate have direct events on the activeness and direction of human activity. Herewith, we can confirm the fact that wars, ethnical and religious conflicts and antidemocratic processes have played important roles in global warming in the last 100 years. It has already been proved scientifically that there are observed serious changes in the chemical composition of the areas where revolutions or huge social changes take place. We think that such changes occur not only in the chemical composition but also in physical parameters of atmosphere. One of the same parameters is the heating balance of atmosphere.

Global warming the two sides seen through a logical perspective

Global warming is defined as the constant increase of the earth’s temperature which causes rapid climate changes, and is one of the main issues of our time. This subject is an issue since the specialists such as climatologists and scientists do not agree on the causes of the climate change: either humans are to blame or it is a natural process. Both sides of the argument believe that the other is applying the fallacies of false cause and suppressed evidence In the article “Humans blamed for climate change” written by Richard Black, it is stated that the IPCC believes that humans are “likely” to be the cause for global warming and that the warming period we are facing is seen as being a threat to the living beings on the planet. They claim the surplus of CO2 in the atmosphere is what is causing the earth’s surface to heat up and that because of this the sea levels are rising.They also argue that human activity, in other words, our constant emission of greenhouse gasses is what is causing global warming and tropical storms. Lastly, they claim that the predictions they made on the climate change we were going to experience are getting worse and the process is faster than expected. I believe that both sides the study of global warming have good and bad arguments, the second opinion being that climate change is a natural process and that there is no reason to fear this change; and I feel that this is a positive way to conduct the study because science should always be open to different possibilities. The scientists with a different point of view on the subject state firstly that climate change has been occurring through history and the supposedly threatening patterns that the researchers have been seeing in glaciers are simply a natural process. The “global warming” is due to the increase in the sun’s temperature which has not only been seen on planet earth but also on the other planets in our solar system. Lastly, the temperature has been rising but not as dramatically as predicted, the rise and fall of sea-levels is determined by more complicated theories than the melting of ice and global warming is not necessarily a catastrophic event.
First of all, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said that temperatures were probably going to increase by 1.8-4C (3.2-7.2F) by the end of the century and that global warming was likely to influence the intensity of tropical storms(Black). It may be possible that the temperature is actually increasing but other sources claim otherwise. For example, one scientist from the IPCC does not agree with the many others on the claim that global warming is manmade. UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist, states that warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the historyWhen people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists”(Morano). On the other hand, let’s assume that the IPCC is right about the temperatures getting warmer. In that case, logically the intensity of the heat will indeed have an influence on the intensity and frequency of tropical storms. I believe that the fact that some leading scientists that are part of the IPCC do not agree with the claims that the organization defends proves that this study remains an inductive argument and that science should never stick to one conclusion without exploring others. In the article, Dr Susan Soloman claims that “we can be very confident that the net effect of human activity since 1750 has been one of warming” (Black). The IPCC now concludes that it is “90 % certain that human emissions of greenhouse gases rather than natural variations are warming the planet’s surface” (Black). For the scientists that believe the other side of the argument, this would seem to them like the fallacy of false cause. They claim that other scientists and climatologists compared the temperatures in the past and related them to the emission of greenhouse gasses and their conclusion was completely opposite to the one of the IPCC. They state that “warmer periods of the Earth’s history came around 800 years before rises in carbon dioxide levels’, meaning that a rise in Carbon Dioxide follows a rise in temperature, rather than increasing temperature following rising CO2 emissions” (Marshall). They also mention that there was a huge surge in CO2 after the Second World War, yet the global temperatures fell for four decades after 1940 (Marshall). Due to this information, it is possible that global warming may not be mainly caused by the human emissions of CO2 since apparently the CO2 did not have that much effect on the temperature in the past. On the other hand, it is more than likely that the emissions of CO2 in the past were smaller than in our present time which suggests that humans may have an effect on the changing temperature. Once again, both sides of the argument are possible which proves that this scientific study remains an inductive argument.
On the subject of rising sea-levels, “computer models of climate generally include water coming into the oceans as ice caps and glaciers melt” (Black). The IPCC also states that the sea-levels are likely to rise by 28 to 43 centimetres (Black). This means that the glaciers are moving, breaking off from one another and melting, and this causes the sea-levels to rise. It is said that this will be a threat to humanity yet in the opinions of scientists that support a different argument, the people who affirm this point ignore stronger evidence that sustain a different conclusion. In other words, both sides of the argument believe that the other is committing the fallacy of suppressed evidence. The study contradicting the IPCC claims that glaciers have always been moving and breaking off since it is a part of their natural process. Thousands of years ago, there was not a great deal of discharges of greenhouse gasses and the glaciers were still going through the same process; therefore, humans have no effect on the movement and breaking of glaciers. “Dr Boris Winterhalter, a professor on marine geology and former marine researcher at the Geological Survey of Finland, said that, “The breaking glacier wall is a normally occurring phenomenon which is due to the normal advance of a glacier”" (Marshall). As for the melting of the glaciers and this affecting the sea-levels, Professor Philip Stott from the Department of Biogeography at the University of London, claims that the rise of sea-levels is an enormously slow and long process (The Great Global Warming Swindle). They believe that the constant threat of rising sea-levels is in fact not such a big menace since it would probably take another ten thousand years before we see any significant difference. Both arguments seem very solid; therefore, it is important to keep an open mind when dealing with scientific studies.

Second of all, the IPCC concluded that there is a greater probability than 66% that rising temperatures were a factor in influencing the intensity of tropical storms (Black). Anybody could understand this to be true. Tropical storms are caused by the heat; therefore, if the world’s temperature goes up, the tropical storms will be more frequent and more intense. This is a very strong argument, claiming that if the temperature goes up so will the tropical storms, but other scientists make an equally strong point in stating that this should not be blamed on human activity. Climate change has always been a natural process and Timothy Ball, one of the first Canadian doctors in climatology, explains that the changes of temperature are always related to the sun: “climate change is occurring, but that is because it is always occurring, it is a natural change that is a result of the changes in the Sun’s temperature. He explains that we are currently leaving what was known as a Little Ice Age and that the history of Earth is riddled with changes in the climate”(Marshall). Therefore, the intensity and frequency of the tropical storms would more likely be caused by the changes of temperature of the sun than human activity. The IPCC chairman then states “if you see the extent to which human activities are influencing the climate system, the options for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions appear in a different light, because you can see what the costs of inaction are” ( Black). So again the humans are to blame for the discharges of greenhouse gasses and the warming of the planet. Yet the other scientists would believe that this argument is a fallacy of suppressed evidence. The IPCC convincingly points out that we do have a lot of polluting industries and cars and that this is affecting our planet in a very negative way.
On the other hand, other scientists believe that this can only be a little factor in the warming of the planet. They state that the sun controls our season and dominates our solar system. For them, it would be more likely that the sun, with a diameter of approximately 1, 4 kilometres, would be the cause of the heating of the planet. However, if the sun is getting warmer and it is affecting the Earth, it should also effect the other planets in our solar system. NASA made a report that showed that Mars is also experiencing climate change: “Mars’ carbon dioxide ice caps have been melting for a few years now [] An astronomical observatory in Russia declared that, “the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.” They further point out that both Mars and Earth have, throughout their histories, experienced periodic ice ages as climate changes in a continuous fashion” (Marshall). This statement strongly and considerably argues that the climate change is not mainly caused by humans but that the sun is getting warmer and that this is affecting our whole solar system. On the other hand, logically it would be positive for us to lower our use of CO2 simply because it would be better for the health of our peers and the planet. We constantly breathe the polluting fumes of industries, cars and machines; therefore, is it not a surprise that the number of human illnesses are multiplying and that our planet is heating up? Achim Steiner, an executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme claims that ” It is an unequivocal series of evidence [showing that] fossil fuel burning and land use change are affecting the climate on our planet” (Black). It is very obvious to what extent the burning of fossil fuels could have an effect on our health and the health of the animals and plants, but the scientists arguing the other side of the argument have trouble believing that humans have so much control over the temperature. Once again, both sides of the argument would think that the other is applying the fallacy of suppressed evidence. The opposing scientists believe that if the sun is affecting other planets, the same way that it is affecting Earth, they do not see how it is possible that humans are the main cause of the Earth’s global warming. The first point they state is that carbon dioxide has so little place in the Earth’s atmosphere that it makes it impossible to have such a big effect on the planet. Geoffrey G. Duffy, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Material Engineering of the University of Auckland states that “even doubling or tripling the amount of carbon dioxide will virtually have little impact, as water vapour and water condensed on particles as clouds dominate the worldwide scene and always will” (Morano). So this suggests that human activity is not the main cause of the global warming if the carbon dioxide is indeed a very minimal part of our atmosphere.
The second point is once again that the sun is what is causing the warming of the planet. Some scientists and satellites have measured the heat of the sunlight and they have all come to the same conclusion: “satellites that measure the temperature of sunlight have been recording an increase in the sun’s temperature” and “German and Swiss scientists [] claim that it is increasing radiation from the sun that is resulting in our current climate change” (Marshall). This reminds us that science should keep an open mind to different interpretations because both of these arguments offer us different possibilities on the subject which is what science is all about.
Third of all, the IPCC conducted a study that proposed that their previous study was too moderate. “Writing in the journal Science, an international group of scientists concluded that temperatures and sea levels had been rising at or above the maximum rates proposed in the last report, which was published in 2001″ (Black). This means that the heating of the planet and the rising sea levels are to a degree that is more extreme than the scientists predicted. This seems threatening since the heating process of the planet is climbing rapidly and it suggests that humans are going to feel the effects of this sooner than predicted. On the part of the IPCC, this is a very strong argument, that global warming is happening faster than predicted, but other scientists believe that since it is a natural process there should be nothing threatening about it. They state that there have been many different climate periods throughout the history of the Earth and people still survived through it without many significant damages. For example, the medieval warm period, 800-1200, and the little Ice age, 1560 to 1850, were both different climatic periods when the weather was either exceptionally warm or exceptionally cold (Scott). Yet this was not considered threatening at the time and the people survived without any difficulty. As for the melting of glaciers that is causing the sea-levels to rise, some scientists state that there were cases where the Earth was much warmer than today and such events did not occur. Professor of atmospheric science and director of the Earth System Science Centre, John Christy says that “we happen to have temperature records of Greenland that go back thousands of years. Greenland has been much warmer. Just a thousand years ago Greenland was warmer than it is today yet it didn’t have a dramatic melting event” (TGGWS). Since both of these arguments are backed by significantly impressive evidence, I believe that science is indeed a study that explores different theories and that it should not be limited to a one-sided opinion.
The study that the IPCC conducted compared the 2001 projections to the present day and the models concluded “a temperature rise between about 0.15C-0.35C over this period. The actual rise of 0.33C was very close to the top of the IPCC’s range” (Black). This argument makes a very strong point and I believe that there is nothing that any specialist can say that can oppose this. You do not have to be a scientist or a professor to see that the temperatures are going up. Whoever would try to contradict this fact would be politically incorrect since it is very obvious that the temperatures are changing. Yet some scientists claim that the temperature rise is not the cause of human activity, and that this rise should not be threatening at all because once more they believe that it is a purely natural process. This climate change, in their view, could actually be a positive thing. For example, Philip Stott, a professor in the Department of Biogeography at the University of London, says that “it’s important people know that climate enabled a different lifestyle in the medieval period. We have this view today that warming is going to have apocalyptic outcomes. In fact, wherever you describe this warm period [medieval warm period], it appears to be associated with riches” (TGGWS). Professor Stott continues by saying that “according to Chaucer, vineyards flourished even in the northern part of England and in London there are many memorials of this time period” (TGGWS). Therefore, if the medieval warm period was a positive outcome for the world and the people, they believe that the global warming period we are experiencing today may not be as devastating as predicted.
Other scientists do not agree with this claim yet their argument holds as strongly as the opposite. In the study of sea level comparisons, “the actual average level, measured by tide gauges and satellites, had risen faster than the intergovernmental panel of scientists predicted it would”(Black). Their argument is that the human emission of CO2 is what is causing the heat on the Earth to rise, and that this is what is making the glaciers to melt. Also, because these glaciers melt, the sea-levels are rising. But other scientists believe that if there were hotter time periods on Earth, as mentioned previously, and this did not make the glaciers melt or the sea-levels rise, they assume that either this argument is completely false or the melting is caused by something other than the rising heat. Both views once again believe that the other is committing the fallacy of suppressed evidence. Professor Philip Stott explains that the sea level changes are governed by two factors: “Local factors: the relationship of the sea to the land which often has to do with the land rising and falling then anything to do with the sea. But if you’re talking about what we call eustatic changes of sea, world-wide changes that are through the formal expansion of the ocean, they have nothing to do with the melting ice. And that’s an enormously slow and long process” (Durkin). Once more, both sides of the argument make strong claims that are supported with strong evidence which shows that science offers different possibilities for the same study and that this should be understood as an important aspect of scientific disciplines.
In conclusion, I still believe that both sides of the global warming argument make strong claims and that this is the proper way to conduct a scientific study, by offering different possibilities. The IPCC was created “by the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environment Programme” (Oreskes), and most Environmental organizations agree with the arguments that it defends: “all major scientific bodies in the United States whose members’ expertise bears directly on the matter have issued similar statements” (Oreskes). On the other hand, some scientists like Morano have been rumoured to have links to the gas company that would influence their protest against manmade global warming: “Public tax filings for 2003-7[]show that the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow [the organization financing Morano's Web site] received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the ExxonMobil Foundation and from foundations associated with the billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife, a longtime financer of conservative causes best known for its efforts to have President Bill Clinton impeached” (Kaufman). Yet this is no reason to make scientific research a one sided study since not all scientists are like Morano. Some might have an interesting scientific point of view on the subject which should encourage us to keep an open mind while discussing science.

In February 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) stated in their Fourth Assessment Report that human actions are “very likely” (i.e. with 90% or greater probability) the cause of global warming, indicated by an increase of 0.75 degrees in average global temperatures over the last 100 years. This statement is the result of very tough discussions on a worldwide scale between thousands of climate researchers whether human activity is the main cause of global warming. The results of this discussion were presented to the public in many publications, for instance in Martin Durkins documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle, presented in March 2007 at UKs Channel 4. The main message of this production was that man-made global warming is “a lie” and “the biggest scam of modern times.” Martin Durkin and coworkers argue that the scientific consensus on climate change is the product of “a multibillion-dollar worldwide industry, created by fanatically anti-industrial environmentalists, supported by scientists peddling scare stories to chase funding and propped up by complicit politicians and the media”. The documentary showcases scientists, politicians, economists, writers, and others who are sceptical of the scientific consensus on anthropogenic (or man-made) global warming. Some of the scientists, opposing the main stream of greenhouse gas theories, simply argue that it has not yet been ascertained whether humans are the primary cause of global warming or if there are other natural variations responsible for this phenomenon like increased solar activity, cosmic rays or variations in natural climatic cycles. There is also a series of scientists questioning the temperature records used in the databases as temperature differences attributed to the greenhouse effect are reasonable small (fractions of a C). The so-called urban heat island effect leads to a local warming in more populated areas, showing slightly higher temperatures due to to increased heat generated by cities, rather than a global temperature rise. Anyhow, this argument was confuted by the IPPC, indicating that the effect of the urban heat island on the global temperature trend is no more than 0.05 C (0.09 F) degrees through 1990.

Other facts presented by the film were shown to be incorrect or misinterpreted. The film asserts for instance that records of atmospheric CO2 levels since 1940 show a continuing increase, but during this period, global temperature decreased until 1975, and has increased since then. Anyhow, it is well recognized that this cooling was driven mostly by aerosols (i.e. pollution) in the atmosphere. There is nothing contradictory about this cooling when all sources of radiation changes are considered. A second argument that easily can be invalidated is the impact of the so-called solar variation theory on global warming. According to the authors, solar activity (and involving cosmic rays as well as heat from the sun aiding cloud formation) is currently at an extremely high level and directly linked to changes in global temperature. The film argues that solar activity is far more influential on global warming than any other anthropogenic or natural activity on Earth. What the film does not mention is that solar activity has declined over the last 30 years – at the same time as the major spike in global temperature.

But there are some statements related to the influence of the oceanic mass and water vapour on climate change which are more difficult to confute. Water vapour makes up about 98% of the greenhouse gases by volume and provides something between 40 to 80 percent of the natural greenhouse effect. It probably has the largest impact on the planet’s temperature and climatic conditions, much larger than CO2. Water particles in the form of clouds act to reflect incoming solar heat, but the film argues that the effects of clouds cannot be accurately simulated by scientists attempting to predict future weather patterns and their effects on global warming. This argument probably is correct and it is well recognized that water vapor is responsible for the natural warming up of the surface temperature to approximately 30-35C. Anthropogenic greenhouse effect, according to the films argumentation, is only about 2% of the total natural greenhouse effect, which corresponds to a 0.6-0.7 C increase in temperature. This estimate is somewhat smaller compared to the results of much more sophisticated simulations (0.9 2.7C), but there is undoubtedly an anthropogenic effect of CO2 increasing the average surface temperature.

One example of the complexity of climatic simulations is the prediction of future storm events considering global warming effects. According to a recently published study, published online by research meteorologist Tom Knutson in the journal Nature Geoscience and resumed in the New York Times (May 18, 2008), global warming isn’t to blame for the recent jump in hurricanes in the Atlantic. The study predicts that by the end of the century the number of hurricanes in the Atlantic will fall by 18 percent. In the past, Knutson has raised concerns about the effects of climate change on storms. His new paper has the potential to heat up a simmering debate among meteorologists about current and future effects of global warming in the Atlantic. And Knutson is not alone with this view. Another group of experts, those who study hurricanes and who are more often skeptical about global warming, also say there is no link between global warming and hurricane frequency. They attribute the recent increase to a natural multi-decade cycle. According to the prediction, the number of hurricanes touching land in the US and its neighbors will drop by about 30 percent because of wind factors. However, the biggest storms, those with winds of more than 110 mph, would only decrease in frequency by 8 percent. The biggest decrease is forecasted for storms with winds between 39 and 73 mph (normal tropical storms), who would decrease by 27 percent.

It’s not all good news from Knutson’s study, however. His computer model also forecasts that hurricanes and tropical storms will be wetter and fiercer. Rainfall within 30 miles of a hurricane should jump by 37 percent and wind strength should increase by about 2 percent, Knutson’s study says.

There are already critical reactions on this new publication. MIT hurricane meteorologist Kerry Emanuel claims that the computer model used by Knutson is not adequate enough to look at storms and according to Kevin Trenberth, a climate scientist from the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo., Knutson’s computer model is poor at assessing tropical weather and ”fail to replicate storms with any kind of fidelity.” It also does not considering well enough the intensity, duration and size of the storm events, as not only the number of hurricanes is important to evaluate.

Positive feedback comes from NOAA hurricane meteorologist Chris Landsea , who wasn’t part of this study, praised Knutson’s work as ”very consistent with what’s being said all along.” ”I think global warming is a big concern, but when it comes to hurricanes the evidence for changes is pretty darn tiny,” Landsea said.

What caused Global Warming?

It is primarily attributed to the accumulation of water vapor, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the earth’s atmosphere. This is not really a bad fact because having these gases creates a fine balance in the earth’s body of waters. Without these gases, the oceans will freeze; we would not want that. This accumulation somehow has natural causes. However, man’s activities like fossil fuel burning,pollution,deforestation among others have largely contributed to the dramatic increase of accumulated “gases”.

What are the effects of Global Warming?

When these gases get trapped for long, it dramatically causes the dramatic rise of temperature. This dramatic increase has led massive ice glaciers to melt, ultimate dry out of land surface and other notable abnormal changes. Al Gore mentioned some effects: Myanmar Cyclone, Hurricane Katrina, and rise in sea levels causing islands to disappear.

My Perspective and Opinion to Global Warming

The documentary Inconvenient Truth was classic and laudable. It really stirred controversies when it was released until AL Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for it, some critics then became fans. Personally, i am both a critic and fan. A fan because i admire people like him who are made up of rare courage and motive . He went through places to spread what he knew even though sometimes, he wasn’t given attention and support by the US Government and NASA. Critic because instead, he must focus on disseminating these information to mega companies who kill people and nature just to earn billions. Do you really think switching our electricity-consuming habits at home will make a big impact to this gigantic phenomena? Instead, why not think about closing all factories, malls, airports, trade centers, power plants,etc. and going back to candles at night and cooking using raw woods for fire,etc. Obviously,it is not a sensible option because almost all of our life’s conveniences revolve around electricity. But obviously, this is the ultimate solution: termination of consumerism of electricity. But the big questions are:
Are the big companies willing to compromise?
Are YOU willing to give up your conveniences as well?
It is really hard to decide upon this. And it’s pointless to blame each other. Let’s just accept the eventual consequences of a modern world. The least we could do is to not support products that violates IIEE’s nature standards and other relevant standards, organize awareness of this,etc . Besides, the world is in His hands and he won’t let go of it. Never.

Global warming is a cause for concern. Mother nature has created green house gases to keep our environment warm enough to sustain life. Any good thing beyond a limit becomes destructive which is what happening exactly with green house gases namely methane, carbon dioxide, etc with its increased concentration in the environment. The use of responsible culprits- use of petroleum automobiles, CFC, charcoal production, etc is increasing day by day. Increase in green house gases will also lead to increase in temperature to an extent that it will melt all icecaps globally. This will lead to increase in water level and will submerge all nearby lands.

Everyone can play their role as a responsible inhabitant on earth. Its high time when we should start taking initiatives. There is a well saying charity begins at home, time has come when we can reconsider this quote. Everyone can contribute for this noble cause in their own way, after all small small drops of water has made an ocean. Planting trees and plants in our surroundings will not only give an aesthetic touch, cooler environment but also help in reducing green house gas carbon dioxide from the surrounding. One can always go to offices and nearby places by walking or cycling, if its not that far or can go by public transports, instead of using their own petroleum run vehicles which release poisonous gases. Walking or cycling is one of best physical exercises known. In Japan, its a trend to go cycling. For teenagers trendy sports cycles can be good option. Using CFC free refrigerators, shaving foams is a trend for the generation lets go with it and save our planet. There has been a lot of talk on the subject of global warming. Specialists believe that human activities in the past 50 years have given a negative boost to climate change. After a long series of tests and chart observations, it seems that the primary culprit for global warming is the emission of greenhouse gases (mainly carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide). These gases have altered the composition of the atmosphere and raised the planets temperature with almost 1?C since 1950.

The problem is not that these gases exist. They have always been in the atmosphere, but there is a major increase in their concentration. The planet started to heat up and the climate change appeared simultaneously with the beginning of industrial revolution. Then, at the start of a new era, the concentrations of carbon dioxide increased with nearly 30%, methane almost doubled and nitrous oxide with 15% making global warming a serious, even deadly matter.

These figures are truly concerning due to the fact that we rely on fossil fuels to drive, to heat and to power factories not thinking of the harsh reality: burned fossil fuels are the main reason for the rise of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere leading to global warming and accelerating the rate of climate change.

Still, the combustion of fuel is not the only one to blame for global warming. Researchers consider that the development of agriculture, deforestation, landfills, industrial production and mining are also to blame. Each one of them has helped induce large, global, abrupt climate change leading to a warmer planet, making it more difficult for us to live.

The statistics in climate change are frightening. Almost 98% of the greenhouses emissions are due to pollution and it is no surprise that the most powerful and rich country (U.S) on the continent is mainly responsible for global warming. 1998 has been declared the warmest year on record and scientistists are concerned that the snow cover in northern hemisphere and floating ice in the Arctic Ocean have decreased. Do we really pay enough attention to the climate change and do we want the planet to become too warm for us to live in?

We are all threathened by this sudden climate change. Global warming is not a joke and we should start paying more attention to it. Not only wildlife, forests and coastal areas are vulnerable to the climate change that the greenhouse gas may bring, but also water resources, animals and most important our health.

What should we expect from global warming? First of all, a change that will have a major impact on the way we live will be a warmer weather. Climate change will appear in the form of increased precipations worldwide, with acid rainfalls that will damage the natural habitat, with more frequent and intense storms that will build up and result in powerful hurricanes. And this is just the top of the iceberg called global warming. The hurricanes will be stronger than usual with greater devastating powers.

The population of the globe should be taught more about these greenhouse gases that are held responsible for climate change and more specific, global warming. Carbon dioxide is realeased into the atmosphere when wood, fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal) and solid waste are burned. Methane is emitted during the production and transport of oil, gas and coal, but it also results from decomposition of solid, organic waste. Nitrous oxide is the product of: agricultural and industrial activities, combustion of fossil fuels and solid waste. So, do we still have to wonder why these greenhouse gases have such a strong impact on climate change?

Unfortunately, there are not many options to reduce the effects of global warming. Lately, in order to predict climate change, specialists have put up what is called an emission inventory which registers the quantity of air pollutants in the atmosphere. It also establishes the identity of the polluting agent (chemical/physical), the geographic area covered, the time period over which emissions are appreciated and the type of activities that cause the emissions. This way, the scientific community is making an effort to reduce the serious consequences of global warming.

Another solution for the problem of global warming is recycling. It started years ago in powerful and well developed states and it is a novelty for poor, undergoing tranzition states that are struggling to survive. But, slowly, people all over the world are learning about the strong effects of recycling newspapers, plastic, glass, metal. It is a healthy action that makes the world a better place. By recycling, we not only help ourselves, but also the forests, crop yields and water supplies which are severely affected by climate change. We also keep in mind the animals and the ecosystems – another sector badly damaged by climate change. We make the difference.

Global warming affects everybody. That is why we must fight against our self destruction and lifes in general.
